Technical SEO checklist: 10 things to check on your site
Indexing, tags, speed, structured data: the 10 technical checks that most often hold a site back, and how to fix them.
Before writing content or chasing links, make sure Google can crawl and understand your site. Here are the 10 points that cause problems most often.
Indexing
- 1. The site uses HTTPS and cleanly redirects the http version.
- 2. A robots.txt file exists and doesn't block your important pages.
- 3. An XML sitemap lists your pages and is submitted in Search Console.
- 4. No important page is set to “noindex” by mistake (common after a redesign).
Tags
- 5. Every page has a unique title of 30 to 65 characters, with its main query.
- 6. Every page has a meta description that makes people want to click.
- 7. One H1 per page, clearly stating what it's about.
Understanding and speed
- 8. Structured data describes your business (Organization, LocalBusiness, Product, FAQPage…).
- 9. The site is fast on mobile: compressed images, no unnecessary scripts.
- 10. Internal links connect your important pages: no orphan pages.
