How to get recommended by ChatGPT: 7 concrete actions
Why ChatGPT recommends your competitor and not you, and 7 concrete actions to become a source it cites.
When you ask ChatGPT “what's the best tool for…” or “where can I find a good…”, it only cites a few names. Here's what makes the difference, and what you can do this week.
1. Clearly answer your market's questions
An AI happily reuses a sentence that directly answers the question. On your key pages, start with the answer, then expand.
2. Add an FAQ to your important pages
Real questions, short and precise answers. Mark them up with FAQPage structured data.
3. Make your identity easy to read
Name, business, area, offer, prices: this information should be easy to find, consistent everywhere, and described in structured data (Organization or LocalBusiness).
4. Publish an llms.txt file
It's a plain-text summary of your site, placed at the root. It's not an official standard yet, but it can help AI quickly understand what you do and which pages matter, and it costs nothing.
5. Get people talking about you elsewhere
Articles, comparisons, industry directories, forums: AI relies on what the web says about you, not just on your own site.
6. Keep your information up to date
Prices, opening hours, offers: an outdated page quickly loses the trust of search engines and AI alike.
7. Measure, then repeat
Regularly ask AI your customers' questions and note who it cites. Without measuring, you can't know whether your actions work.
